Garden Railway Guides 1 -The Compton Down Story by Peter Jones
Garden Railway Guide series No 1
Written in 1988 and published by Brandbright as part of a series of four Garden Railway Guides by Peter Jones.
Number 1 chronicles the first 40 years of the Compton Down Railway right from the early Hornby clockwork beginnings up to the emergence of the slate quarries and distinctive buildings that went on to make the Compton Down so well known amongst garden railways of the time and subsequently. It also has a nice little section about the wokshop based on a Talyllyn Railway coach.
Poetic and atmoshperic as Peter's writings often were, this provides an enjoyable read for anyone involved in the art of Garden Railways, and is an interesting account of the dawn of the epic little railway that was rescued to become a part of the Llechfan Garden Railway at Tywyn Wharf Station.
Volume 4 Building a steam locomotive is also available on request.
